Boiler Types

There are many types of boilers on the market today and, because boilers usually last longer than other heating sources, boilers may be found as old as 100 years.  Repairing boilers starts with identifying the type of boiler that is on the premises. For example, is it a water boiler or a steam boiler?

Identifying Your Boiler

Water Boilers have identifying marks such as; Circulation pumps, expansion tanks, FB 38 Bell and Gossett water feeders (which are either red or gold), or other identifying features like bleeder ports on your radiators and zone valves on the water piping near the boiler. If you have multiple thermostats in your home or business it is safe to say you have a water circulated boiler.

Steam Boilers have identifying marks such as: a low water cut off (the control that you drain your steam boiler, weekly), a glass site glass that shows you were the water level is at, (provided that the site glass is clean and you can see the water level) other simple identifying marks of a steam boiler is steam vents on your radiators as well as steam vents on the condensate return water pipe near the steam boiler.

Emergency Boiler Repair

Boilers last a long time, especially when correctly cleaned and maintained, and serve a vital function in your home. That’s why when the boiler shuts down, or is threatened, it can feel like an EMERGENCY. Don’t worry, though, our trained boiler repair contractors are ready to help 24/7!

Chicago Flooding Emergency Repairs

Storms hit Chicago, Illinois on a constant basis and the city waits to open its flood gates until the calls of flooded basements come roaring in. Flooded basements wreaked havoc on furnaces, boilers and hot water tanks all over the Chicago area. Here are some things to keep in mind if/when your basement floods.

  • Use caution when entering a flooded basement. Water and electricity can be extremely dangerous. If you’re in doubt, don’t go into the basement.
  • If there’s only a few inches of water, shut off your boiler, furnace, or hot water heater, then call us to come take a look!
  • Boilers or furnaces can often be repaired after even a serious flood. However, they must dry out first and parts will often need to be replaced.
  • Because flooding is such a problem in Chicago, we try to offer better deals to repair or replace flood damaged boilers!

So, whether you’re dealing with an emergency or your boiler just stopped working, we look forward to repairing or servicing your steam or water boiler — don’t hesitate to call or fill out our contact form.
