Central Air conditioning maintenance and repair.

There is nothing worse than having an incredible warm day and you try to kick in your central air to find that your central air conditioning unit is only blowing warm air. It is even worse when this occurs in the middle of summer! These last couple days here in Chicago have given us Chicago natives a peek into the weather to expect this summer. If you didn’t open your windows, I bet your home has gotten a little warm!

However, if your central air conditioning unit is not working correctly, there are a few things that you need to look at to diagnose why your central air unit is blowing warm air.

First, you need to check your thermostat. Is it set to cool? Sometimes, when the weather first changes, we forget to change that setting. The fan should also be set to auto. If both of these are done correctly, you should next check the wiring for the thermostat. If you have an older thermostat, it may be time for a new one. If none of these things are making your central air conditioning blow cool air, go onto the next step for troubleshooting.

Secondly, check the coils. The coils can often catch debris which will make it run hotter. Many times you will need to use coil cleaner to get your central air conditioning to work correctly.

The next step is to check the Refrigerant levels (if you have an older unit). If your Refrigerant is low, you will need to get it charged back up. Also, you should check for leaks. These can often be repaired by using a sealant or by replacing the pipe.

Lastly, you should check the drain pan and the compressor.

If none of these things work, then it is time to have a reliable HVAC company like Around The Town come in and fix (or replace) your central air conditioning.

Let us know what you have already checked and done. That will help us make a quicker diagnosis of your central air conditioning problem and get your home cool that much quicker!
