How To Prepare Your Air Conditioner For Summer

With summer right around the corner, there are definitely a few things you can do to your air conditioner to help it run this summer. When it turns hot, you want your air conditioner to work and not sputter out and die.

First, turn off the power to your unit before you do anything! Next, check your filters. These need to be changed if they are clogged with dust and/or other debris. Head outside and next clean the air-conditioner condenser. In the winter, you will find that leaves and debris may blow into there. All of that needs to be removed to improve efficiency. You may need to remove the top panel and/or grills to clean them out also. You just need to be careful to not bend the fins. You can also use a rag to clean the blower’s fan blades. Next, check the coolant lines. The lines that run from the evaporator on the air handler to the condenser outside are covered with insulation to prevent them from losing energy. If the insulation is frayed or missing, replace it. Lastly, wait till your unit is dry before you turn it back on!

Before it gets hot out, make sure you check that your air conditioner is in good working order. Now is the time to turn it on, so if there is a problem that you can make a call to Around The Town to come out and repair your air conditioner before the rush!
