EMERGENCY WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR CHICAGO

Weather here in Chicago has been recorded at a temperature of -15. This dangerously cold weather breaks a record low of -14 set on this date in 1988. Officials are warning residents to stay indoors as much as possible.

With the windchill, today’s temperatures can hit -40 to -50 degrees. Only a few minutes of exposed skin can result in frostbite. This weather is set to persist all day and even until tomorrow where temperatures may only rise to a high of single digits.

Extremely cold temperatures have also affected all forms of transportation including major delays on the CTA and cancellations at O’Hare and Midway. As for roads, high winds with drifting snow is causing deteriorating driving conditions. Some roads and alleys are impassable due to snow buildup.
