Common Air Conditioning Problems

Once we get the summer’s first heat wave, many people find that their air conditioners do not work, or they are not working as well as the homeowner wants. There is nothing worse than sitting in your home sweating while you try and figure out what air conditioning problem you have on your hands. Here are a few common air conditioning problems you may have:

Improper operation. If your air conditioner is on, please make sure that all of your windows and doors are closed.

Improper installation. This is why it is important to have a qualified HVAC contractor like Around The Town install your air conditioner unit. You make have leaky ducts in your home. If proper refrigerant charging is not performed during installation, you will lose much of its efficiency.

Refrigerant leaks. Adding refrigerant is not how to solve this problem. Instead, a qualified HVAC contractor will find the leak, fix it, test the repair, and then charge the system with the correct amount of refrigerant.

Lack of Maintenance. A homeowner needs to make sure that the filters and air conditioning coils do not become dirty. If they do and do not get cleaned, the compressor and/or fans are going to wear out much quicker, and you will shorten the life of your air conditioner.

Electric control failure. This is another common problem if you do not have a qualified HVAV technician come to your home. If your air conditioning unit is oversized for your home, it will frequently turn on and off. This forces more wear and tear on the compressor and fan controls.

Corrosion. Electrical connections and contacts should be checked, because corrosion can be an issue with air conditioners.

It is always important to have a qualified HVAC technician or contractor come to your home for HVAC repairs. This small troubleshooting list will hopefully help you figure out if you have one of the common air conditioning problems.
