CHICAGO (AP) — School officials in Chicago have canceled summer school classes in 21 non-air conditioned buildings due to the excessive heat that’s plaguing Illinois.

Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard on Thursday canceled classes at three elementary schools, which have air conditioning that isn’t functioning properly. Those cancellations are in addition to those at 18 other schools, some of which don’t have air conditioning at all.

Brizard says the move is in the best interest of students and staff because of a forecast that has temperatures reaching over 100 degrees.
